Review By Yising Kao

Nick Jonas released “Gut Punch” on New Year’s Day and there couldn’t have been a better way to kick off 2026. This song is a beautiful reminder to be kinder to yourself and practice self-love. I first heard “Gut Punch” when Nick Jonas performed it live at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on November 29th and instantly fell in love with it. He performed it with so much emotion, and as someone who tends to be a people pleaser sometimes, I could relate to the lyrics.

These lyrics are incredibly meaningful and hit hard for me:

“Now, what would it be like if I just tried being nice

To the person that I'm seeing in the mirror? Yeah

If I find that inner child

Haven't seen him for a while

Let him know he's doing fine”

“Gut Punch” makes me visualize my younger self and think about how proud I would be of her today. When I first listened to the track, a montage of moments where I felt insecure and anxious played in my mind, but also happy moments where I’ve learned that I could overcome anything. Jonas expresses his vulnerability through this song with his genuine lyrics that invoke a sense of nostalgia. When someone encapsulates what you’re also feeling in a song, it’s refreshing to know that you’re not alone in feeling a certain way. This song will inspire you to love yourself first, and that’s the reminder that everyone needs going into the new year!

Listen to “Gut Punch” now and prepare some tissues! Nick Jonas will release his upcoming album Sunday Best on February 6th, and I couldn’t be more excited. I attended his Sunday Best Brunch in Las Vegas where he played a couple of sneak peaks of his new songs for the audience, and every snippet was truly amazing. One song that he played for us was "Princesses," a track he wrote about his daughter, Malti. Listening to the heartwarming lyrics made me sob. Sunday Best is going to be an album full of love, vulnerability, and passion. Anyone can tell that Nick Jonas puts his passion into every project he creates, and I’m ready to listen to Sunday Best on repeat!
