Concert Review: Haute & Freddy - Big Disgrace Tour at Scoot Inn in Austin
Review & Photos by Victoria Allen
Haute and Freddy came in hot and ready when they performed live at the Historic Scoot Inn in Austin, TX. I went into the show blind and found myself in a court filled with queens, kings, and everyone in between - Including a few jesters. I was welcomed by a circus carriage which was very fitting for the duo's playful, melodramatic theme.
The Rubin Brothers opened the show with tricks, stunts, and a plethora of instruments. The playful jazz band was formed by the two brothers, AJ and Colescott, and they are best known for combining entertaining circus stunts into their musical performances. While performing their tunes, AJ juggled while riding on a unicycle and Colescott impressively balanced on top of his bass. My jaw-dropped, along with everyone else in the crowd, when the brothers started to perform more extreme stunts while being completely blindfolded! The brothers were the perfect entertainers to open for Haute and Freddy. They had the audience in awe the entire set!
The American synth-pop duo, Haute and Freddy, is best known for creating alternative music while rocking their iconic circus flare aesthetic. They launched their set with the song “Anti-Superstar” followed by “Fashion Over Function.” The crowd went wild when the duo played “Dance the Pain Away.” People were swaying and singing with one another throughout the course of the song. All these wonderful hits can be found on their latest album, Big Disgrace, which was released earlier this year.
There were fun moments filled with fun, engaging crowd interactions. During "Scantily Clad" five lucky fans wearing dazzling themed attire were chosen to act on stage during the number. The crowd was going crazy and they selected some dedicated, courageous fans that were fully immersed in the act. I also want to highlight the fans in attendance, everyone was kind and excited to be there. Many fans sported attire fit for a royal court and the dedication was outstanding. Haute and Freddy interacted with fans many times throughout their set. They also threw in an improvised number to deliver a special Birthday song to all those celebrating in September.
The duo wrapped up their show with "Shy Girl," which currently stands as their most popular tune. The tune was originally released as a single back in 2025 and has become a massive hit with fans! Throughout the night, many in the audience would sing along and dance to the beat. However, when “Shy Girl” was performed not only was everyone singing along, but fans managed to clear some space in the corners of the venue to dance together with the music. It was an amazing moment to witness. Haute and Freddy strutted around the stage with two members of the couture clown ensemble, Fou Fou Ha! The fabulous clown duo, Fou York, from the New York chapter, entertained the crowd during performances in the later half of the set. After the commencement of the song, Haute & Freddy were joined by the Rubin Brothers who seemed to have… misplaced their clothes. Nonetheless, the six of them performing on stage was a highly humorous way to end the show and definitely made the night truly memorable for everyone in attendance.
The iconic duo formed back in 2024 and they have already amassed thousands of dedicated fans. Their performances incorporate unique circus style entertainment which is extraordinary to witness live. Aside from their music, I adore the theatrical style they’ve committed to both in fashion and stage presence. If I had to summarize Haute & Freddy's concert in three words they would be: playful, whimsical, and risque! Crowd engagement is challenging to mix with live concerts but the pair have incorporated it in their show very well. Unlike their tour name, the duo is far from a big disgrace and I’m excited to watch their rise in popularity as they grow their fandom!
Don't miss your chance to join Haute & Freddy's royal court. The duo has a few more stops in their North American tour before performing in South America later next month. If you want to catch their fantastical tunes and circus flare, check if they are bringing a show near you.
