Concert Review: Kylie Hernandez at Blues on the Green

Review & Photos by Victoria Allen

From walking on stage at the University of Texas to opening on stage at Blues on the Green for the very first time, 2026 graduate Kylie Hernandez is hitting every major milestone! Kylie is a passionate 22 year old singer and songwriter with a knack for creating iconic country pop music! She is a local artist and a true inspiration for aspiring artists everywhere.

Kylie dazzled on stage in a white, fringe dress and true Texan style boots. She had the perfect white guitar to tie the whole look together. She kicked off the evening strong by debuting her upcoming single titled, “Highwayman.” The song has an electric rhythm and some spicy lyrics, which sparked the energy in the audience. Crowds swarmed the barricades to sway and dance to her beautiful melodies. Some other memorable songs for night included romantic fan-favorite, "Good Ole Fashioned Country Love Song" and a classic cover of George Strait's "All my Ex's Live in Texas." Kylie is known for releasing heartfelt and relatable country tunes with catchy hooks.

As her phenomenal set came to close, Kylie played her most popular single, "That's Your Man." The song is a bittersweet tune she wrote about her toxic ex-boyfriend as warning to his then new girlfriend, now wife - Jumpscare. The song has a playful beat with an ironic hook that perfectly reflects the disappointing behavior of having a good for nothing partner. I think the two lines "If never growing up is what you're into, then honey - Congratulations! That's your man" summarizes the message of the song perfectly. Kylie will be releasing her next big single, “Highwayman” on June 12th. You can hear her live this summer as she is touring in some major venues across Texas.

Blues on the Green is a 2 day long, annual event held in Austin's Zilker Park to showcase impactful local artists and bands. The free event draws in thousands of members of the Austin community to relax, dance, and enjoy the talented performances of handpicked local singers and musicians! The event is hosted by the Waterloo Media team and sponsored by HEB this year. There are plenty of fun vendor booths as well as delicious food options throughout the park. Gates open as early as 5:30 PM both nights so grab a blanket and a friend and head over to Blues on the Green!

June 10th marks day 2 of Blues on the Green and is the last chance to watch the spectacular event this year. If you missed Kylie's performance on June 9th, you can catch her next show at the Austin Song Core Showcase on June 11th.
